Yah, I really like Freevo, but it forces you to go through it’s config files to do stuff (last I tried), for things like LIRC and MPlayer commands, really turned me off. I dunno if it supports a graphical folder interface either, I’ll have to lookee.

Ive heard good things about PyQt … and I kind of figured I’d *probably* end up using Py-something.

I’ve just recently set up my htpc and tried all those media centers. And found them all so overloaded and also had a thought about writing may own piece of software for this. But now i’m stuck with mc and mplayer as this works perfect. I hope for news from you about this subject :)
For GUI I suggest using PyQt.

When all I was doing was playing existing media files, freevo was what I used and I was very happy. When I had to do recordings I moved to MythTV and I really missed the sanity and simplicity of freevo.
